Header Install - Removing the dipstick

I'm getting ready to install my JBA's and trying gather as much info as I can before I get started.

The install guide and some of the threads I've read talk about removing the dipstick so that you can pull the manifold. Looks to me that you can't remove the dipstick till you remove the manifold and conversely, you can't remove the manifold till you remove the dipstick. I can't see where the dipstick connects to the engine.

- How does the dipstick connect ?
- How can you reach it ?
- How do you reinstall it ?

I have an 05 and when I did it, I just removed one bolt on the side of the head and pulled straight up on the dipstick. It just presses in and is sealed with an o-ring. When putting it back you just line up the stick with the hole in the side of the block, down low, and push it back in. I read in the instructions that you need to space the thing using some washers on the 04. This is for the bolt into the head that holds the dipstick tight.

Hope this helps, Jeff

I just did this myself. The dipstick tube comes out after you remove the one bolt (15 mm) attaching it, then pulls straight up, that easy. The tube has an O ring at the bottom that seals it in the hole, so make sure is clean when you put it back in. To reinstall is a bit tricky but easy once you find the hole. Stick the tube between the first set of header tubes and guide it down to the position were the dipstick is supposed to go, then find the hole in that area and guide it in. I had my daughter help me, she held the tube in position and I guided it in from the bottom of the car and she pushed it into place. Once I found were it was supposed to go it took 2 minutes to put it back in. I didn't have to use a spacer. Good luck.
